Equity and Benefits for Early Childhood

Hillsborough County Commission on the Status of Women:

Lifting the Voices of Early Childcare Providers

Goal:

To lift the voices and amplify the perspectives of early childcare professionals on wages and training requirements to policymakers, government officials, funders and corporate decision-makers.

Desired Impact:

We, the Hillsborough County Commission on the Status of Women, believe that to do better for the children, we must first do better for early childhood care providers who are mostly women and predominantly are asset-limited, income-constrained employees (ALICE).

Through this initiative, we aim to elevate the perception of this career as valuable work, sharing perspectives on key success factors for the childcare industry’s employment proposition: wages, inadequate resources for training and professional development, and other work environment and culture factors. Specifically, we will increase awareness about the contractual requirements that limit employees from pursuing other higher paid jobs for a year following professional development certificate.
