Seen As A Child

What do we do?
When we host events and training sessions, it’s important to remember that children are not just little adults; they are unique individuals with their own developmental stages. By recognizing the brilliance of developmentally appropriate behaviors and practices, especially for Black children, we create a nurturing environment for them to thrive. Young minds learn best when they are engaged in activities that resonate with their age and cultural context. By focusing on their natural curiosity and creativity, we enable children to grow in away that respects their individuality. It’s essential for families to understand that nurturing their children’s needs in a culturally relevant manner fosters a strong sense of identity and belonging.
As we educate Black families, we encourage them to move away from practices rooted in Western culture that may not suit their child’s unique needs. Many traditional approaches might overlook the importance of cultural identity and emotional well-being. Instead, we promote parenting methods that emphasize love, support, and understanding. Incorporating culturally relevant teaching can empower Black children to celebrate who they are, embracing their heritage while developing critical thinking and self-esteem. We believe that this shift will not only create a healthier environment for children to grow up in but also enrich their educational experiences.
In our webinars and training, we also discuss the importance of celebrating and nurturing Black children’s unique strengths. It’s vital for families to provide supportive spaces where children feel safe to express themselves authentically. By focusing on practices that lift them up, such as storytelling, music, and art, we can help children form a positive self-image. Educating families on the harmful effects of certain parenting styles can lead to healthier relationships within the family unit. By emphasizing joy and support, we can ensure our children are treated as they should be-joyful beings who are free to explore the world around them, supported by loving families who understand their needs.
